WHAT DOES THE SCHOOL BOARD DO?
The Atlanta Board of Education (school board) establishes and approves the policies that govern the Atlanta Public Schools. The board also appoints the superintendent who oversees the system’s day-to-day operations.
Who’s on the school board?
The Board consists of nine members, representing 6 geographical districts and 3 “at-large” seats. Members serve a 4-year term.
November 7, 2023 General Election
Note: The 2023 election is the first staggered-term election for the Atlanta Board of Education with only odd seats (District 1, District 3, District 5, At-Large Seat 7, and At-Large Seat 9) being elected. Even seats (2, 4, 6, and 8) will be voted on again in 2025.
