How do I vote with an absentee ballot?

The State of Georgia allows absentee voting by mail and in-person. Therefore, no excuse is required to vote before election day.

Earliest Day for Registrar to mail out an absentee ballot:

October 11, 2021

Last Day to Submit Absentee Ballot Application:

October 22, 2021

The State cuts off citizens’ ability to apply for an absentee or mail-in ballot 11-days before the final election day. If an emergency arises, such as quarantine for COVID, there are no extensions to apply.

Governor Kemp applied for an absentee ballot the Friday before the 2020 November election and used dropbox for this very reason. *ACLU

*Absentee ballots must be received by November 2, 2021, at 8 PM to be considered as a vote for the general November elections.*

The State restricts drop box locations and hours to inside early voting locations during office hours only.

Compared to the last election, when drop boxes were located outside of buildings and accessible 24/7. *ACLU

Due to SB 202

  • Expect fewer early voting sites in the city and less time to vote early.

  • Expect more difficulty in requesting and receiving absentee ballots – and shorter times to vote absentee.

  • Voting organizations and governments are now prohibited from sending unsolicited and repeated absentee ballot applications. Source AJC
